The shadows that she noticed in the grass inspired her to develop an approach that however, did not paint the object she chose onto canvas. The object becomes a representation of its own, and the canvas carries the painterly interpretation of the object. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only thing of her art to survive is the photograph. Trompe-l'oeil art is created through the combination of two methods of painting and photographing. The result is an unflattened and two-dimensional photograph. Meade often integrates her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows them to interact within the world of their own. By doing so, Meade has removed the borders between photography, painting and performing.
