She covered sports for some of the biggest media outlets across the nation. Her time at The Washington Post was spent with numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. In 2004 Nichols transferred to ESPN for nine years during which she was awarded 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on some of the network's most frequented shows such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. In the course of this broadcast, Nichols reported on TNT's NBA broadcasts which included playoffs, regular season, and All-Star broadcast teams. The reporter also reported on golf, baseball and Final Four broadcasts for CBS as well as TBS. This was the second occasion in the 42-year history of TBS that a women had been chosen from over 200 nominations.
