Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments on the representations of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and a prestigious feminist for more than 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. The site also has the director of operations. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and different classes of individuals on the internet. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a popular public speaker she has made presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was launched in 2009 by Sarkeesian. an undergraduate student at York University who had been involved in topics that concern gender and feminism for quite a considerable period of period of. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. However the attack could not deter her instead it made her more determined to be a feminist media critic. Her numerous contributions to the feminist field are recognized with numerous prizes.
